A rotary instrument with up to 40.000 rpm is regarded as being low speed.
Usually, instruments from this segment are used in conjunction with micro-motors that have the same maximum level of rotations per minute, and can be used with an osteotomy hand piece which conveys the speed of the motor 1:1 to the rotary instrument. Instruments found in this category are mainly used in rhino- and otosurgery aswell as maxillofacial surgery, within limitations also for plastic- and neurosurgery.

According to where the instruments are to be used, the lengths vary between 44,5mm, 70mm, 95mm and 125mm. For certain instruments, e.g. with Lindemann spiral burrs other lengths are the norm.
Regarding the properties of the shank, several different systems are available, the most common being a smooth, conical, (round) shank with a cross section of 2,35mm. This is the standard shank form we have adopted for our low speed rotary instruments, if not otherwise stated. This explains why the shank form is not especially mentioned in the product tables on the following pages.
Please remember, that rotary instruments are precision tools, which require careful treatment, regarding storage, handling and preparation.
